The Nordic Library – a research library

The Nordic Library was inaugurated in 1995. It is a research library, focusing in particular on archaeology and the study of ancient culture. The Nordic country institutes (those of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) operate the library together and coordinate their book purchases.

The library houses about 40,000 publications and 450 journals, which mainly cover the fields of Greek archaeology and ancient Greek history and religion.

Institute residents can obtain a reading desk for longer stays and the library offers ideal working conditions all year round. The library receives Danish and other Nordic student librarians as interns.

The library is within walking distance of the Danish Institute, on the south side of the Acropolis in the Makrigianni area.
