Information
The Danish Institute at Athens is proud to present this accalimed Danish percussion duo to an Athenian audience for the very first time. The Duo consists of Marta Soggetti (b.1993) and Katerina Anagnostidou (b.1989). Having studied together at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Marta and Katerina created Sistro Duo with a repertoire that varies from classical music to new experimental music. Sistro Duo have collaborated with a number of young composers, and a their concert at The Danish Institute at Athens, the two percussionist will present their repertoire of new Danish music.
The program includes the very first performance of the work "Solo: Cantus", by the Danish composer Jeppe Ernst. The piece was composed for the duo and engages the musician's bodies, without sound, but with rhythmic movements that stand for the music.
"Knock on Wood" by the Icelandic Finnur Karlsson is also composed for Sistro and has 6 different miniatures played on a single element - as the title indicates - wood. The two performers play on two identical set-ups which mirror each other and emphasize their virtuosity, in Karlsson's playful and humorous work.
Another Danish work finds its place in Sistro's program and lends the title to the concert: LYS 4, a composition by Mads Emil Dreyer for 12 lamps and 12 corresponding electronic sounds. The collaboration between Sistro and Mads Emil has borne fruit in several works composed for them or arranged for the duo, which they have performed not only in Denmark but also in Paris in 2023 and London in 2021. "Miniature II", for glockenspiel and keyboards, whichis arranged for Sistro by Dreyer, is also on the program.
As an addition to an otherwise all-Nordic programme, Sistro will perform a piece by the Dutch Jesse Broekman, entitle "Door andere handen" which means "by other hands". Broekman made a new version of the work especially for Sistro in 2021 and has created a unique atmospheric mood in his composition for copper pipes, glass and electronics.
